*Expired* Advertise Your Blog on Halloween

by Heather on October 14, 2009 9:41 pm

One night a year you’ve got lots of kids and their parents knocking at your door, so why not take the opportunity to do some advertising for your blog or small business? I’ll be passing out treats to parents as well as their kids. I’ve heard that other bloggers have done the reverse too – give your business cards to your kids to leave at the houses they visit on Halloween.

This year I’ll pass out treat bags to the parents who visit my house as a way to spread the word about Freebies 4 Mom. Everyone loves chocolate, so I’ve got some ready to pass out along with my blog’s business card. It’s an easy way to reach some new readers, and will definitely leave a sweet impression on them.

Will you be passing anything other than candy out on Halloween?

I think I'm going to enter the giveaway for the business cards. I was just talking to another blogger tonight about adding my blog name onto my business cards. They have my URL, but not the name.Interesting idea regarding passing out something that has information about your blog. Seems like a great (and inexpensive!) way to do a little marketing.

This is a fantastic idea, not only for bloggers, but I sell Avon, and this would be a great way to get my name out there. Thanks! :-)

Yep, I'll be treating the parents with a business card and I'm thinking about getting some peel and stick magnetic stip (roll) at a craft store to add. Turn it into a magnet possibly so that it may not be tossed. For anyone that wants to order quickly, I ordered mine online at Staples and they were ready for pick-up the same day. I actually was able to use my header as the graphic which I LOVED. It was a nice "branding" effect. I need to order more myself. I'll be totally out after the 31st. We have HUNDREDS come to our door!

Those cards look really cute. Where do you usually get your cards from? :)

I recently started a specialty food business and at a kids trick or treat event held here before Halloween, I set up some samples for moms and dads. As the kids came by, I was able to get the word out to a number of folks along with a sample of what I do. I even sold a few items both that day and the next.Depending on what you do, consider demonstrating it in a tasteful way to get the word out. The worst they can do is say no.

Gotta say…I don't think people should use Halloween as an advertising opportunity. So much has changed about Halloween – we have to check candy, no going out on your own to trick-or-treat, so many people turning out their porch lights spretending not to be home…Can't we just keep it for the kids, without banners and business cards?Just my 2 cents…

Love the idea. My family just moved to a new area and business has been slow. This would be a great way to possibly get new customers. Thanks!

I won't be home on Halloween .. We will take our daughter to a nearby town to a Trunk or Treat at a church. Plus in our 4yrs living here, we have never had a single trick or treater. While it would be a great way to advertise, I want to enjoy the night with my 2yr old, plus my 23m old niece and not interested in passing out cards :)

This is a fantastic idea, Heather. Thanks for sharing it.I would do it, but we typically opt to "escape" to a community carnival or festival for the night instead of doing the whole trick-or-treating thing… :) stephanie@metropolitanmama.net
