📚Free Kids Books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

📚Free Kids Books from Dolly Parton's Imagination LibraryFind out if Dolly Parton’s Imagination Libary is giving free books to children in your area by entering your zipcode.  It’s not available in all areas, but worth checking out!  One of my readers, Kaylee in Florida, shared this program with me.  She said  “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will ship one book out a month for your child, until they are five years old. I just signed up a few months ago, and have about 5 or 6 books, makes for a good book collection.”  Is your area participating in this program?  Let us know by leaving a comment! Thanks goes to Mary for sharing!

Hi…I had no idea that this program existed. As a mom to a 21 mos old and a 6 mos old I am excited to call and get both of my children registered tomorrow. In my county you can not register online but I have the phone number of the lady to call so this is now in my plans for the day tomorrow.

Unfortunately, this is not available in my area either. It is a great program for those that are able to participate!

We have been getting a free book a month for a while now. My oldest son is now 7 and we started him when he was 2, he was sad when they stopped coming for him @5. I signed my youngest son up when I sent in his birth certificate, lol. He loves it and I know when he turns 5 in Sept he will be sorry to see them stop.

My child gets a book every month. I live in Nashville and work very closely with Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. This is a great program that many states offer in some capacity. It is free for all children under 5 and if you want to sponsor a child, it's less than $15 for a year (and a great way to get a tax deduction). :) By all means, sign your kids up. 58% of Tennessee children under 5 years are getting the books. The goal is 100%!

Great books!! We joined when my son was an infant (he just turned 7) – we still enjoy our books!

My two boys love getting a book in the mail every month from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. I took a picture of part of our collection in my post about it last summer. Just click on my name to see it. :-)

My parents live in Tennessee and signed up to get them for my son. For the first year they are really nice hard back books. After that they are paper back and still really nice. He has a nice library at their house for when we visit and it's great since they are books we don't have!

My kid's are 5 and 8 and they both were in the program from when they were born until they both turned 5. They both were so excited when the mail lady came each month. My 5 year old cried last october when I told him it was his last book he would be getting in the mail. I think it is a great program to get kid's started looking and reading book's.

Ours is sponsored by United Way in Indiana. Due to budget cuts and the cost of shipping, they've started shipping quarterly instead of monthly(they just package 3 months of books together in one shipment) and they ask for a $20 annual fee if you can afford it. If not, you still get the books for free.

I agree I think we should save it for the children who need this resource.

We get this program through our local United Way in Clay County, Minnesota. Love it! My 3 year old loves getting his book in the mail every month and wants to sit down and have me read it instantly!

Our area United Way was sponsoring this program in our area, but stopped last year because of funding issues. It really is a great program, and we always tried to pay it forward. If we got a book that my son wasn't interested in, we passed it along to someone we thought would be interested. I agree that this program was set up for the under priviledged, but I couldn't get several parents of kids that I tutor to sign up until I had. They didn't want to be in a program that was set up for "poor" people. It's so sad!

I live in Nebraska and my county is Dodge. We have been receiving our books for a couple months now. The girls love it!

I am sooo mad… I live in Nebraska and apparently we have to live in a CERTAIN district in order to sign up. :-( So basically all the kids in my town including my own children CANNOT sign up for this because we don't live in a certain school district (which by the way is a very small school district in the large city i live in.) grrrrrrrrrrr

:( its not offered in my area….

The program was started with the intention of reaching low income children – they're the most at risk for being behind in their reading skills, often lack the resources that many "middle class" kids have in terms of access to books, etc. While I think it is great that the word is getting out about this wonderful program, please, if you are able, donate to the group as well. Just because the books are free doesn't mean that there are tons of books out there for everyone – this is definitely a program that needs to be supported. And if you can afford to purchase books, take your kids to the library, etc, please reconsider joining and save a spot for a child in need. (Sorry – I work in the library field, and know about the budget cuts, etc. I just don't want people to take advantage if they aren't "hurting" financially…I want the kids who this program was created for to benefit too! :)

I know it is available in Northeast Tennessee. It is absolutely wonderful. Really nice, popular books. They send board books while your child is younger and then hard back and soft back books when they are older. Definitely worth checking into. Completely FREE!!!
