Penguin Young Readers has offered another fabulous book giveaway, this time for the book Because I Am Furniture by Thalia Chaltas. This book is for the teen audience and I’ll be giving a paperback advanced reader copy to three of my lucky readers.
Here’s more information about this book directly from Penguin:
Anke’s father is abusive. But not to her. He attacks her brother and sister, but she’s just an invisible witness in a house of horrors, on the brink of disappearing altogether. Until she makes the volleyball team at school. At first just being exhausted after practice feels good, but as Anke becomes part of the team, her confidence builds. When she learns to yell “Mine!” to call a ball, she finds a voice she didn’t know existed. For the first time, Anke is seen and heard. Soon, she’s imagining a day that her voice will be loud enough to rescue everyone at home—including herself.

I am reading Brisingr!
I really like YA literature. The premise of this book sounds sad and rather “heavy,” yet it also sounds like it has a hopeful ending. I’m interested…
I’m reading the latest Cedar Cove book by Debbie Macomber and I’m reading a fun new book called Daisy Dawson is on her way with my 9 year old girls. We love to read.
I am reading the 3rd book in the Eragon series- but it’s so rare that i get to read these days, I can’t even remember the name of it! That’s sad. My son is reading Leven Thumps Gateway to Foo (no idea what that one is, but he reads like crazy and I cant’ keep up anymore).
My girls are devouring the Prom edition of Seventeen magazine! First prom coming up this year for one of them. Woohoo!I am reading “He Afflicted Me” by Lynnette Kraft and it is hard to put down! Her story is amazing! What a mother she is!
We’re reading the good ‘ol Boxcar Children Series!
Right now I’m reading Lifelines by CJ Lyons, a medical story.
In response to Heather Alexander, I tried to find the series you were talking about, the shadowbox children but all I found was the Shadow Children about kids in a time of population control who were born to familys already at thier limit and had to hide to survive. Is this the series you were refering to?Stilldawn
My daughter (who is 11) is reading the warriors series right now by Erin Hunter, she is on the most recent book, Long Shadows, she has read all the books up to now but is still trying to collect them all. My son who is turning 13 in february just got two Rudyard Kipling and an Edgar Allen Poe book for Christmas and he is starting those, he also got with them a pocket theasarus. Which I think was a brilliant gift. He already had interest in Poe’s works but there are some words that are still difficult. Myself I just finished the third book in the Lon Tobyn Chronicles by Davic B. Coe and am awaiting Jaqueline Careys new series set in the lands from her Kushiel’s series. My husband is reading the 5000 Year Leap, which I plan on reading as soon as he is done. Thats about it!Stilldawn
I’m reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I’m reading the second book of 39 Clues with my 8 year old. And Stella the Star Fairy with my 5 year old. And lots of truck books with my 3 year old.
