I love to read books and I honestly thought it would be impossible to read after I had kids. I went through a reading drought where I did not read a single book in over a year. I would check books out from the library and return them unread because I couldn’t find the right time to sit down and read. But then I got an iPhone and I discovered the free Kindle apps and the free Kindle eBooks. Suddenly I was finding more opportunities to read including at the gym while on the crosstrainer, in the car while waiting, in the waiting room, and on the coach while my hubby is watching sports.
I received an email from Deb5ft2 that touched my heart because it made me realize that the free eBooks I share really do make a positive difference in the lives of some of my readers. And I shouldn’t assume that everyone knows you can download free Kindle eBooks and read them on your computer. Many people still think you have to own a Kindle to read the Kindle books (not true). This is why I share the free eBooks with my readers:
“I wanted to thank you for your postings. I have been sick since last Wednesday, Dec. 23rd and had to cancel all of my Christmas travel plans. Single and no family/no significant other, so no one to help. Plus it snowed. No energy to do anything productive. No books in the house I hadn’t read. The first good thing was I had plenty of car food for the furbabies so I didn’t need to worry. The second good thing was that I had time to catch up on email. I read your email about the free Kindle books, but I don’t have a Kindle. Did not know you could download a Kindle for PC. What a lifesaver! Instead of being sick and bored, I was just sick! Downloaded all of the free books I could find and have already read most of them. Thanks”

I just can’t thank you enough that you share these free books! Not only has it saved me tons of $ from ordering books for my kindle app (ipod touch) but that last time the SAT books that you told us about will help my daughter tremendously. I love reading, I read almost constantly during any brief respite from kids, work or cleaning, lol and having a few free books downloaded is awesome, TYTYTYT<3
Diannaray – thanks for your comments
I love that you share all of these free books! Any opportunity to read is good! I don’t have a Kindle or Nook, but I do read them on my computer. I’m still a little old school, though. Give me a paperback any day!
Thanks, Christina – it’s nice to have options with the free eBooks. I love
to save trees if I can buy a Kindle book versus a paper book – my library is
an out-of-the-way drive so isn’t convenient to stop by frequently.
kelsey, i definitely agree with you! books have always been portable, your comment cracked me up. :)
Honestly, I think it’s great that you are encouraging people to read, and I could see how being home-bound would prevent someone from getting to a library and needing to download books to their computer. But I really don’t see why it’s such a novel idea to read on-the-go. That’s why books are portable. Why can’t people bring their books with them and read wherever they are, like readers have done for several centuries? And do I need to mention that ALL books are FREE at your local library? I have only on very rare occasions needed to find a book online because my local library doesn’t offer that title. Other than that, there is no replacing holding a good book in your hands, turning pages, without looking at a glowing screen…..Get thee to a library!
I agree Kelsey, I certainly am a fixture at my library for the kids programs and books. But for my own reading, while I do sometimes check out books, I really like having them for as long as I need them without being overdue- I’ve got four kids and a full time job- reading a book can sometimes take me a bit longer than the time allotted (reasonably) by the library. and downloading them into my ipod makes it a bit easier to travel with because my ipod fits in my pocket- some of those books are huge, especially if you’re a stephen king fan, lol…I think for busy or overloaded people being able to download and store a book into your own personal device allows people who may not have the time or access to a library to continue to read and that’s a good thing:)
*I totally agree though nothing like holding a book, and that new book smell is irreplaceable, lol…
Kelsey – One reason eBooks can be a better alternative than the
library for some is they never have to worry about late fees and it
doesn’t require an extra trip for those who don’t have one in their
neighborhood. But of course the library is an excellent resource.
Could you please post free Nook books from Barnes and Noble when you catch them for us “Nook Worms”? Thanks so much!!!
I have the Kindle app on my Droid and download free books nearly everyday. I love having it with me wherever I go. I now read everyday while waiting for the bus to drop off the grandkids, or waiting in lines where ever I go. It’s fantastic. I got a NookColor for Christmas, but still read Kindle books on my phone. There are way more free Kindle books than Nook books.
Thank you! I do not have any of the updated stuff like iphone or Kindle or whatever. I did not know that you could get the application for your PC, I now have it on my PC and I am going to start using it today!!!
