🎅Santa’s Hat Lasagna & more festive recipes
Are you ready for the holidays and feeding last-minute guests? I’m planning ahead by stocking my freezer with family-friendly foods like lasagna that I can make in a hurry (without a last-minute trip to the grocery store). The key to serving frozen foods is to get creative – and don’t be afraid to name your food presentations something fun! I don’t like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen – it’s more fun to play games with the kids and watch movies together during the holidays. When you have frozen meals in the freezer, you give yourself the flexibility and time to enjoy more family time. Visit Nestle’s Meals.com to get more ideas on how to fix meals your family will love without working in the kitchen all day.
Santa’s Hat Lasagna – Pin It
Have you ever flipped the lasagna over and served it with the cheese side down? I made Stouffer’s Party Size Lasagna with Meat Sauce and cut it into triangles instead of squares. By flipping it over I had a red triangle that I could embellish with cauliflower (heated from frozen) to make a Santa’s Hat. Your kids will love this dish – and you can make it quickly if you’ve got one hour and forty minutes available for baking the lasagna.
Rudolph’s Nose Pizza Nibblers – Pin It
Don’t cut that Pepperoni Digiorno Rising Crust Pizza into triangles! Instead start in the middle of the pizza and cut out squares that are just big enough for one slice of pepperoni on top. Stick a toothpick into each square and tell your kids it’s time to eat Rudolph’s Nose (unless that would make them cry of course!).

Mac & Cheese Stars – Pin It
I thought it would be fun to serve Stouffer’s Party Size Macaroni and Cheese in small cups and then decorate the top by using a small star-shaped cookie cutter. I choose to sprinkle paprika on the mac & cheese because of the red color and mild flavor. Use plastic wrap to wrap the outside edges of the cookie cutter and keep the paprika from landing on anything outside of the star. You may want to tell your kids to stir in the paprika before eating so they don’t try to just eat the paprika star.

Peppermint & Eggnog Ice Cream Snowball – Pin It
End dinner with Dreyer’s Slow Churned Light Ice Cream in the limited edition flavors of Peppermint Wonderland and A Very Merry Eggnog. I combined both flavors into one “snowball” by using a popcorn ball mold lined with plastic wrap. If you don’t have a popcorn ball mold, then you could use two ice cream scoops that you press together to get the ice cream to “stick” where the flavors meet. You still might want to use plastic wrap so you can easily release the ice cream from both scoops. I discovered that ice cream is difficult to work with because it melts so fast! My ice cream “snowball” was huge so I had to share it with my kids. Use cinnamon sticks and a candy cane as garnish.

Ready to learn how to make my Santa & Rudolph Cookies from Nutter Butter cookies? I promise they are easy to make and your kids can help you! This is an “assembly only” recipe, so no baking is involved! I melted chocolate chips that I bought at Family Dollar using a double broiler on the stove. If you’d like a thinner chocolate on your cookies, I recommend using brown melting chocolate. Here are the instructions to make these cookies:
SANTA & RUDOLPH COOKIES
Ingredients Needed:
- Nutter Butter cookies
- Red Hot Candies
- Small Round Red Chocolate Candies
- Candy Eyes
- Mini Pretzel Twists
- Red Decorating Sugar
- White Melting Chocolate
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips or Brown Melting Chocolate
Step 1 – Microwave your white melting chocolate and semisweet chocolate chips or brown melting chocolate in the microwave following the package instructions.
Step 2 – Dip the Nutter Butter cookies in the melted semisweet chocolate chips or brown melting chocolate. I like to dip them so only one side is complete coated with chocolate.
Step 3 – Dip the Nutter Butter cookies in the white melting chocolate: halfway on one side (for the beard) and a third of the way on the other side (for the hat).
Step 4 – Apply two candy eyes, one red hot candy and two pretzels to create the face of the Rudoph Cookie.
Step 5 – Dip part of the hat in the red decorating sugars being sure to leave a strip of white for the hat’s furry white rim.
Step 6 – Apply two candy eyes and one small round red chocolate candy by dabbing on a small amount of white melting chocolate to the back so they will stick to the cookie.
Step 7 – Drip a small amount of white melting chocolate onto one side of the hat to create the hat’s white pom pom.
Now you’ve got adorable cookies for Christmas and you didn’t even have to turn on your oven! Let’s see what else we can make for dessert.

Now that you’ve got your cookies, let’s make a trifle! My family loves candy canes, so I crushed candy canes to include in my Candy Cane Crush Trifle for Christmas. Here are the instructions on how to make this dessert:
CANDY CANE CRUSH TRIFLE
Ingredients Needed:
- Chocolate Pudding (chilled overnight)
- Vanilla Pudding (chilled overnight)
- Brownie Crumbs (prepared day before)
- Whipped Cream
- Candy Canes (crushed)
Step 1 – Your first layer will be vanilla pudding. Smooth into an even layer with the back of a spoon.
Step 2 – Your second layer will be brownie crumbs. Smooth into an even layer with the back of a spoon.
Step 3 – Your third layer will be crushed candy canes. You can crush them by placing them inside a sealable plastic bag and then crushing them with a hammer (kids love to help with this part).
Step 4 – Your fourth layer will be chocolate pudding. Smooth into an even layer with the back of a spoon.
Step 5 – Your fifth layer will be whipped cream. Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top and serve!
While I was shopping at Family Dollar, I looked for stocking stuffers and found some great ones! There was a wide selection of Christmas candy and I got glow clappers, solar dancers and crystal growing kits.
I found these adorable Christmas Mugs for only $2 each to use as gifts. I also stocked up on small gift tins for only $1 each. They are the perfect size for gifting cookies to neighbors (not too big so we can deliver them to a lot of neighbors).
Be sure to clip your Smart Coupons for Family Dollar before you go shopping! Remember to enter your phone number into the keypad at the register when you checkout. It’s a smart money-saving tool to make your dollars go further this Christmas!
