Need to do any shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshalls this weekend? Stop by on Saturday (May 9) or Sunday (May 10) for a free reusable bag with any purchase. Of course this offer is while supplies last, but I just wanted to pass it along. A big thanks goes to Kate for telling me about it.
I also want to help you save money, so here are my 4 shopping tips for TJ Maxx or Marshalls:
1. Shop early in the day if you can, you’ll get the best selection of merchandise and it tends to be better organized before lots of shoppers have rearranged things. If you strike-up a conversation with a friendly employee you can even find out the best days of the week to shop
2. Make a list but make it general enough (i.e. categories rather than specific brands) so that you can find several items to choose from to consider for your purchase. It can be overwhelming for some people to “browse” a store with such a huge selection. Making a list always helps keep you on-track during your shopping.
3. Look at your final price and don’t let the tremendous savings from the original retail price influence your buying decision. The final price is what matters because that is what you pay.
4. Buy unique items you fall in love with because they may be gone if you return to the store another day. The merchandise these off-price retailers carry varies each day and for some items they may only get one or two of them total to carry at that store.

tips for the best deals & stealsThe treasure huntShopping off-price is a treasure hunt – try not to limit the experience by being too specific. Sometimes we get great deals on items that do not go to all stores. If you go looking for a specific item, you may not find it. Keep an open mind and your flexibility will pay off.shop oftenThe number one way to discover the best deals is to come often. Shipments arrive at our stores 3 to 6 times a week. At Ross there’s always something new.early bird catches the dealStores get busier as the day goes on so shop as close to opening time as possible to avoid “competition.” For store hours check the Store Locator.SNATCH IT UPIf you see something you like, buy it. More than likely, it won’t be there when you come back.buddy systemBring a friend. Another set of eyes increases your chance to spot a bargain.going, going, goneShop clearance sections for even bigger savings. Price reductions are taken every week and are marked on the ticket. Look for the red and yellow clearance signs.Tip: it's actually easy to remove those seemingly permanent price tags off a picture frame, vase, etc. Rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, mineral spirits (a solvent available at hardware stores) or Goo Gone® easily do the trick.www.greenmarykay.blogspot.com
My TJ Maxx wasn’t giving out the totes, but I got a $69 Nike swimsuit for my 4 year old daughter for $14.99. Would would actually pay $69 for a little kids swimsuit anyway…?
My favorite tip for TJ Maxx is to always keep an open mind, you never know what you may find. I was chasing my toddler around the store one day and found her waving a pair of slippers, I was about to put them back, then noticed they had a yellow (final clearance) sticker on them and were marked for $10. I looked closer and noticed that they were UGG brand! You better believe a got a new pair of slippers that day! I didn’t go out intending to get a new pair, I wasn’t even looking for them, but I ended up getting them anyway because the steal was too good to pass up.
I was there today and got my free bag!
Marshalls is doing the same thing. I just got mine.
Thanks for the tips! I love shopping at TJMaxx, Marshalls and Ross. It’s always a treasure hunt!! I love your tip to shop early and on certain days of the week.
