4 Tips to Earn More Swagbucks

by Freebies4Mom on January 29, 2010 5:10 pm

Are you earning free gift card just by using Swagbucks as your search engine (instead of Google or something else)? Here are my 4 top tips to help you earn more Swagbucks to get your next free gift card faster!

Earn More Swagbucks

1. Use the Toolbar, Use It Frequently
You can’t earn Swagbucks unless you use Swagbucks to search. The easiest way to remember to use it is to have it in front of your face, at the top of your web browser. Just visit the “Toolbars” tab to download a toolbar or plugin.

2. Search for Your Website, Don’t Browse
Instead of typing in “” into your web browser, use the Swagbucks Toolbar and search for “XYZ”. So just leave off the “.com” part. Pay attention to make sure you are headed to the right website (the full url is displayed below the search result in green text) and you can look for “Official Site” text by the name of the site. But don’t search repeatedly for the same term – that would violate the rules.

3. Pay Attention When You Win (Word Verify Your Wins)
That’s because on a random basis they will ask you to complete a word verification. If you “search & win” but don’t complete the word verification in time then you lose those Swagbucks. Believe me – it’s happened to me because I clicked on another tab before waiting to see if I won. Don’t let it happen to you – one of my readers commented and said you have 3 minutes to enter the word verification.

4. Win When Your Friends Win
Referrals are the key to earning more Swagbucks. So tell everyone you know – in conversation, by email, on Facebook, on Twitter. My first impression of Swagbucks was “this can’t be real, maybe those gift card prizes are real – but surely it takes forever to earn them”. Well – the gift cards are indeed real, and if you use Swagbucks on a regular basis and refer your friends you can redeem your Swagbucks for the gift cards you want faster than you would guess. So now I tell everyone I know about it.

I know there are a lot more tips on how to earn more, and feel free to share what you are doing to earn more by leaving a comment! If you wrote a post about it on your blog, feel free to leave a link to your blog!

one of the ways i earn swagbucks with no effort:
if you’re a swagbucker like me, you know of swagbucksTV. at first i hated it. you have to watch 10 videos to earn only 3 swagbucks. but i found a way around it.
they say you have to watch it to earn, but instead i open the video, then click on a new tab to do my thing on the internet while the video plays. it’s muted, so i don’t have to hear it. and every 30 seconds to a few minutes (since you don’t have to watch more than that to get credited) i switch the video, and then go back to what i was doing. so i’m earning the bucks while checking my email or facebook, or signing up for freebies!!! it works great. i’m paying for my boyfriend’s christmas presents with my swagbucks that i’ve turned into amazon giftcards 🙂

Here are a few more tips that I used to get more than $80 in Amazon gift cards in a short period of time:
1. Do a search for one of your favorite subjects (something you might search for daily). Once the search results come up, make THAT into your home page. Now, each time you open up the internet, you have a chance to win some Swagbucks.

2. At the top of your screen, there is a Swagbucks Nav Bar (grey). Click on the tab that says “Earn” from the dropdown menu click “Trusted Surveys”. Just for clicking on it, you get 1 Swagbuck a day.

3. From the “Earn” tab, click on “Daily Polls”. Go there and take a fun poll. and just for doing that, you get another Swagbuck.

Thanks for the tips! I had just done a search, but went to different window to read your tips. When I got back to my search I had won 50 swagbucks and had to enter the word verification – which I probably would have missed if I hadn’t just read your tips!

Another great site is, which earns you points for reading emails, shopping through them, using their toolbar, playing games, referring others, etc. You can redeem the points for gift cards. It adds up more quickly than you might expect.

I don't think I am getting how to use Swagbucks? I am searching and earning no points. When you "win" something and you say to make sure you do the word verification in 3 minutes…where does the word verification or the fact that you won show up? When you search you go to the list of websites you searched for and you aren't on the Swagbucks home page or anything anymore so…is there a pop up or something if you win?? Where / how do I see if I won? Thanks for the help!

Could you please explain to me how this works? Also the tool bar keeps freezing up my computer

Just so your readers are aware, we downloaded the toolbar a few months ago and it repeatedly (over the course of a few weeks) crashed our browser (Safari) with no rhyme or reason. We've since uninstalled it..

Great tips Heather! We wrote a Swagbucks tutorial several months ago that your readers might find helpful too. You can reader it here: Swagbucks tutorial

Thank you for addressing my earlier concern about searching for known websites. As I had a problem with use violations last year, today I reviewed their policies to determine specifically what I did wrong. While the SwagBucks rules do not expressly prohibit searching for known websites, they do prohibit repeatedly searching for the same terms:“…searches that are not deemed by the Sponsor to represent legitimate use of the Search Services will void all entries and result in disqualification. Such non-legitimate uses include, but are not limited to:…searches for the same word or phrase; any other searches which do not appear to represent a legitimate use of the Search Services.” So while it is okay to search for amazon, if you do it on a daily basis, you will be in violation of their usage rules.I don't care whether you post this particular comment, but please mention that repeatedly searching for the same word(s) is not permissible. Thank you.

Just so everyone knows, I did receive an "ok" from Swagbucks for posting these tips. They are not in violation of any of their rules.-HeatherFreebies 4 Mom

I had that happen last week when I missed the captcha to type in and lost my points on that search. I had multiple tabs open from the search and didn't know I had won. I recently found out you have 3 minutes to put in the captcha code.I would add to become a fan on their Facebook page: if you use the SB toolbar on Firefox you can't always count on the update star to appear when there is a new message…sometimes you have to check it manually. Unfortunately a lot of people (me included) are not receiving our newsletters. I have it subscribed under 3 different email addys and they are not coming in. I wrote to Swagbucks and they said they are aware of it and there is nothing they can do about it. I even added the email addy to my white list and it has not helped. Here is the addy to add if you want to see if it helps you receive yours:prodege.noreply@us.emaildirect.comK~

Some extra tips that have been helpful for me: I signed up for the newsletter, use the swidget in igoogle, and maintain a twitter account for surprise codes. I've earned $25 amazon gift cards since December from just doing the searches, looking out for the almost daily codes, and recycling an old ipod mini!
