DIY Christmas Centerpiece – Bundt Pan Candle Holder

DIY Christmas Centerpiece - Bundt Pan Candle Holder

Here’s a table centerpiece that you can make with things you probably already have in your house! Do you have a  bundt pan? I love the way bundt pans look so I’ve got them displayed on the top of my china hutch in my dining room. I wanted to make a new centerpiece for our Christmas table by using my bundt pan and sticking a taper candle inside. It turns out that the small hole in the bundt pan is the perfect size for a taper candle to stand up in. Add some fresh cranberries to help support that taper candle and wrap it with any type of green garland. I used the holly garland that I use on my fireplace mantel.

I was shocked that I put this centerpiece together in about 5 minutes and created something completely new for the center of our dining room table. I love the way the candlelight reflects off the bundt pan! At first glance it doesn’t even look like a bundt pan because the cranberries are spilling out of the center. Since I’m using fresh cranberries, I can only use this centerpiece for a few days (those cranberries will wither and mold). As an alternative you could use fake cranberries.

What type of Christmas Centerpiece are you making for your table?

Thankful Sunflower Thanksgiving Craft

Thankful Sunflower

Thankful Sunflower Thanksgiving Craft
There are lots of Turkey Thanksgiving Crafts, but I wanted to create a Sunflower Thanksgiving Craft to display on my Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerator with the assistance of  my kids (ages 5 and 7).  My goal was to create a craft project that uses what we already have and that would encourage my kids to think about what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving. I love sunflowers so much I created a Sunflowers = Happiness Pinterest board. Speaking of Pinterest – please Pin this Sunflower Thanksgiving Craft!

What You’ll Need
Scissors, paper, tape, and a marker are all you’ll need for this project. Please don’t go out and buy paper for this project because even if you don’t have yellow, green, and brown paper you can always use white and ask your kids to color it! We used scrapbook paper that I already had because we really wanted this to be a GIANT Thankful Sunflower.

Cutting The Sunflower
Parents can freehand cut the Yellow Sunflower Petals, Green Leaves, Green Stem, and Brown Sunflower Center. Or supervise your kids while they cut out these components. I like my petals to all be slightly different shapes because it’s more realistic. I don’t want my Sunflower to look like a cookie cutter.

Assembling The Sunflower
Ask your kids to count the Sunflower Petals and help you arrange the flower on the table. I asked my kids to draw criss=cross lines on the Sunflower Center (because that’s what it looks like on my Mexican Talavera pottery) and to draw the veins on the leaves. It’s not time to tape anything because you want to write what you’re thankful for on the Sunflower Petals first.

What are you Thankful for?
Write “I Am Thankful For” on the center of your Sunflower. Asking your kids what they are thankful for is the funnest part. My kids wanted to list every single food that we have on the Thanksgiving table, but I only let them list two and then we moved onto people and other things. The very last petal of the sunflower says House on it and that is my favorite one because we are so thankful we have a house to live in.

Taping the Sunflower
First we took the Sunflower Center off and then taped the base of the yellow Sunflower Petals together. More tape to secure the stem and leaves and finally the center of the sunflower. Once all parts are connected to each other you can flip it over and put tape on the back to stick it to your refrigerator.

Display on Your Fridge
Display your Thankful Sunflower where your kids can see it and talk about it. We didn’t measure our Frigidaire door before creating our sunflower, so it hangs over the edges of the door a little. My kids love the Thankful Sunflower we created and want to show it off to anyone that visits our House (and we’re thankful for it!).

What am I using the extra time my Frigidaire saves me? I’m using it to do creative and educational projects with my kids, like this Thankful Sunflower Thanksgiving Craft.

Step 3 – Print your list of clipped coupons so you can take your list to Family Dollar® and have all the coupon details handy.

step-4Step 4 – Shop at Family Dollar® for your favorite brands. I shopped the laundry aisle for Tide PODS and Downy Liquid Fabric Softener using my Smart Coupons to save a total of $2.50 on these laundry essentials.

step-5Step 5 – I needed to restock my laundry essentials with Tide PODS which I love for their convenience and no-mess. I needed Downy Liquid Fabric Softener/Enhancer to help my clothes feel soft and smell fresh.

step-6Step 6 – While I was shopping at Family Dollar®, I also picked up Fall decor to help me make my DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece including Fall placemats, Fall floral sprigs and LED tealights.

step-7Step 7 – In order to turn my Tide PODS container into a DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece, I had to remove the stickers on the container. I did this by soaking it in warm soapy water then using an adhesive remover and a plastic scraper (like one you use to clean stoneware with). I just kept squirting the sticker with the adhesive remover then scraping the sticker off with the plastic scraper. It took some time to get all the stickers off, but the end result was a beautiful orange container ready to be made into a pumpkin!

step-8Step 8 – I drew the outline of a pumpkin face using a black permanent marker. Remember that your pumpkin face doesn’t have to be perfect!

step-9Step 9 – I colored in the outline with a black permanent marker to get my pumpkin face.

step-10Step 10 – I put LED tealights inside the pumpkin so that we can illuminate it at night.

step-11Step 11 – Lay out your Fall placemats to be the base of your centerpiece by overlapping them slightly. I used placemats instead of a table runner because it’s easy to adjust the length and they are multi-purpose.

step-12Step 12 – Place an additional placemat in the center to set the pumpkin on top of if you’d like. I liked this coppery leaf placemat that I found at Family Dollar®.

step-13Step 13 – Place pumpkin on top of the center of the placemats.

step-14Step 14 – Surround pumpkin with Fall floral sprigs. I love the contrast that these sunflowers provide to my DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece.

DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece plus Save with Smart Coupons at Family Dollar®Step 15 – Place your centerpiece on the center of your dining table or sofa table. I always have a seasonal centerpiece on my sofa table for the holidays.

DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece plus Save with Smart Coupons at Family Dollar®Step 16 – My kids love this DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece and they are in charge of lighting it up each night by turning on the LED tealights that are inside. After Halloween I plan on using it to store some of my small Halloween decor.

I would love for you to pin my DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece so you can refer to it later when you make one for your home!

Pet Treat Coupons

Purina Treat Coupons from WalmartTreat your pet to something special! I shopped at Walmart to find new treats for my german shepherd puppy. She loves her treats, and lately has been hiding them so that she can enjoy them at a later time. Our favorite new dog treats to discover are the Purina® Beneful® brand Dog Snacks, especially the Snackers that are shaped like different vegetables.

Pet Coupons at WalmartI made DIY Mason Treat Jars as a fun gift for my puppy as well as a great hostess gift for our friends with dogs. It’s super easy to make and you can use materials you probably already have in your house.

What you’ll need:

  • Purina® treats
  • glass mason jars with lids
  • hot glue gun
  • fabric squares
  • ribbon
  • printable pet gift tags
  • twine, string or thin ribbon
  • small hole punch for gift tag
  • cardstock to back gift tags
  • scissors
  1. Print out your gift tags, cut out and back with cardstock to make them more sturdy.
  2. Fill mason jars with treats, one kind of treat per jar. If gifting, then label the back of your gift tag with the type of treat inside the jar.
  3. Place fabric square over lid, then secure by twisting metal ring over fabric. I actually used inexpensive cloth napkins to get the color of cloth squares I wanted.
  4. Measure and cut ribbon to wrap around lid and tie on the gift tab. I love the rustic look of burlap ribbon and it’s just the right width to cover the metal rim.
  5. Apply hot glue around metal ring then secure ribbon to it. Be careful when using hot glue!
  6. Your DIY Mason Treat Jar for Pets is ready to gift!

DIY Pet Gifts from PurinaThere are other DIY Pet Gift ideas on Purina Pet Park as well including Paw Print Stencils and Paw Print Ornaments. I love the idea of creating the paw print ornament every year starting with your puppy so you can see how much their paw grows in one year!

Look for a great selection of Purina® pet treats for dogs and cats at Walmart at everyday low prices.
