I’m excited to share with my fellow bloggers that BlogHer is now accepting applications to join their ad network. I just heard the good news from BlogCoach. I have been a member of the BlogHer ad network since last February, and I can honestly say it is the best decision I’ve made to monetize my blog. I’ve written more about my experience with BlogHer here. I need to emphasize that you should not assume your blog has too low of a readership to be considered, because there is no minimum traffic requirement. There is a list of requirements, and you need to make sure you meet them before applying. I have heard that they are being flexible about the requirement that your blog be at least 90 days old because of the length of time it takes to review the applications (you’ve got to be close though). Good luck!
Steph – Yes, the badges you show at the top for Technorati, RSS, and Sitemeter are just fine (they are not considered graphical advertisements). Also, you can have Google Ads at the top of your page, as long as they are the text version of the ads (not the graphical ads).
Thanks Heather. I moved my adsense to the bottom, I have a technorati, blogger, and sitemeter gadget at the top of my page. Are they ok there?
April – I’ve heard the wait can be up to 30 days. Be patient! And good luck!
I applied a couple weeks ago, and am really anxious to hear back from them. Does anyone know what the wait time is?
Shopping Queen – I guess they are prepared for “future applicants”? Best of luck, I’m looking forward to seeing some new ads on the blogs of my frugal friends!
Steph – Above the fold means the top 768 pixels of your blog. Generally speaking, it’s the view you see on most computer screens without scrolling down. You might be able to Google a “pixel ruler” and be able to see exactly how far down it is until you reach the “fold” line. BlogHer wants their ads to be at the top of your blog and not be competing with any other graphical ads within that space. If you look at my blog you will see that I do have other ads, but they are placed below my BlogHer Ads. I am allowed to have other text ads at the top of my blog, just not graphical ads. I hope that explains it!
Thanks so much for the heads up! I have a question on one requirement. Do you know what this means “blogs that don’t belong to another ad network, requiring “above the fold” placement”? Thanks again.
Thanks for the update Heather. I just applied. I chuckled a bit at their birthdate question. It lets you choose 50 years in the future as well. I didn’t want to mess up my chances of acceptance, but I was curious how it would take a 2050 birthdate.
