Do you need to plan a fun movie night for your summer staycation? Thanks to adding a Haier 40″ LED TV in my Game Room, we are now planning movie nights with one movie for the kids and one movie for parents. Upgrading my TV has saved Date Night in my house because we can now enjoy two different movies at the same time. Tonight the kids are watching Rio while my husband and I are watching French Kiss. Here are some fun snack and drink recipes for you to enjoy at your house when you watch these movies. Pin it if you love these movie snack ideas!
French Kiss is my favorite romantic comedy to watch, so I really enjoyed creating a snack and drink to enjoy during this movie. I knew I wanted to do something with cheese for the snack, but I wanted it to be finger food that would be easy to eat in the dark while the movie is playing. I cut four different kinds of cheeses and flatbread into half-circles using a cookie cutter. I assembled them on a bamboo skewer and stuck a grape on the end. A savory snack of cheese requires a fruity drink to wash it down with! Do you remember when Meg Ryan orders a Sea Breeze on the beach? I made a mocktail version to enjoy and here’s my recipe:
- 1 cup cranberry juice
- ½ cup grapefruit juice
- ½ cup coconut water
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla syrup
- Orange slice (as garnish)
- Mix ingredients and adjust vanilla syrup to sweeten to taste. Garnish your Sea Breeze Mocktail with a slice of orange.
My kids got so excited when they saw the special snack and drink I made for them to have while watching Rio. There were squeals of delight which made me feel like I had just won the “Best Mom Ever” award. The Blue Tropical Drink was a hit probably because of the addition of the large googly eye and striped straw. Sometimes I forget how much fun it is to “dress snacks up” – and this was an easy snack to dress up so I’ll definitely make it again! The Carnival Fruit Cups are simply a slice of orange on the bottom with grapes in the cup and a pineapple ring on top. My kids love cherries so I added one to the middle of the pineapple ring and to the bottom of the drink. I accidentally made the drink look like Blue is wearing a yellow scarf (just like in the DVD case cover) by adding the pineapple ring. Here is my recipe for the Blue Tropical Drink:
- Blue sports drink
- Coconut Water
- Pinapple rings (as a garnish)
- Maraschino Cherries (optional)
- Googly Eye (optional)
- Fill a clear plastic cup with halfway with blue sports drink. Fill the remaining half with coconut water. Garnish with a pineapple ring and drop in a marschino cherry if desired. Just for fun, add a large googly eye with tape to the plastic cup to look like Blue.

Love these selections of movies and snacks! I can’t wait to try this one weekend with the family!
I’ve not seen Rio 2, but having a movie night in your home is so much funner in my opinion, not to mention cheaper. It’s a great chance to spend time with family and since it’s more cost effective, we can do it more often and do things like Sundae ice cream bars, etc. :)
It definitely makes the kids more excited about Movie Night when they get a special snack to go with their movie!
Rio 2! Loved it better than the 1st Rio :-)
Love to do Rio movie night with my kids.
It’s fun! We are going to do it again when we watch Rio 2!
My favorite movie night snack is chips and salsa.
Yummy – I love chips & salsa too!
That blue Rio drink cup is adorable! We just saw Rio 2 yesterday, the sequel doesn’t disappoint! My favorite movie snack is mixing M&M’s with popcorn – nom nom nom ;)
Thanks! We haven’t seen Rio 2 yet – but hope to soon!
Thanks, Heather. These cheese skewers look so yummy! I know what I’ll be making this weekend. I love the idea of little flatbread pieces instead of crackers. We are huge fans of all kinds of fruits and cheeses in my house so this is the absolute perfect snack!
