Sometimes you don’t know you won a prize until it shows up on your doorstep. Here’s an entertaining “Sweeps Success Story” from Gretchen about the prize she was surprised with:
“I’ve won quite a few items over the years, but just one “big” ones, a trip to LA to see a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. But my most interesting story is getting a FedEx delivery the day after Thanksgiving.
It was a large box that was sort of beaten up and had a messy handwritten label. I wondered what I was receiving, even wondering if it was some sort of joke or something. I opened it, with my visiting family members (it was Thanksgiving, after all) by my side. I even remarked, “Maybe I won something??”
As I opened it, I discovered a large Vera Bradley bag stuffed with all sorts of items, including Vera Wang perfume, jewelry, bluetooth headphones, nice ipod speakers, and a coupon for a $200 pair of jeans at a boutique in NYC (I sent it to my friend who lives there – boy was she happy!).
I honestly had no idea what sweeps I had even entered to win. A couple of days later, I received an email from someone at Billboard magazine wanting to confirm I received my package. Turns out I won one of the swag bags that all the presenters got from the Women In Music Awards! A fun surprise and all of my visiting family members got to go home with some early Christmas gifts!”

Awesome swag bag! My family won a Wii from Comedy Central last Thanksgiving. We did not know about the win until we opened the box! My boys were thrilled.
Great story!
I won an amazing prize once…a diamond! A local jewelry store was having a promotion at our minor league baseball stadium during one of the games. You registered to participate, and if selected (I was) you got to play. They put 50 numbered plastic balls in the pool (the stadium has a pool area you can rent out for parties) and you had to pick a ball. You gave the ball over in exchange for a “gem”. 49 were fake and one was real. You had to go to the jewelers to find out if you had the real one. Lucky for me I had picked the real one! I kept the loose diamond in my jewelry box for several months with no plans to get it set. My fiance snuck it out and had it set into a pendant, which he gave to me the night before our wedding! Amazing prize and amazing gift that I wear all the time!
That is so nice!
