Google is looking for users to test drive and provide feedback on the new Cr-48 Chrome Notebook. You need to be interested in using the Chrome Notebook as your primary computer and providing regular feedback to Google. Just fill out the application for a chance to join the pilot program, one of my readers was selected and is already test driving hers. Remember that it’s important to fill out the application honestly and don’t try to guess what types of people they are looking for. Good luck!

Is there any way to know if you were chosen for this or does it just show up at your doorstep ? Any info would be much appreciated thank you ;)
From what I’ve heard it just shows up at your door.
My husband got in on this program and we got ours last month, it’s nice! Very quick, very quiet, and it works great. He’s a software engineer who also does web developing, so I’m not sure if that helped him get on the list or not when he applied. We didn’t get any advance notice that he was accepted, it just showed up one day on the porch.
will they let u keep it after u review it ?
Yes

The sound gets kinda weird after a while if you’re trying to watch something on the computer. I would say that the computer is great but that is my only complaint. I really like being able to use it on the couch. You also have to have wireless internet. It is a must, not an option. I recieved my computer about 2 weeks ago. The box the actual computer has a mouse and wheel on it. I thought that my husband ordered something online, but instead it was the computer I had applied for. I signed up as an individual.
Another site had posted this in early Dec. and I signed up around then but have not got mine so far, so definitely good luck. Additional info you should know is that this Chrome notebook is designed so you can only use it for Web surfing with the Chrome browser and nothing else. You can’t see the desktop, access the hard drive, and are limited to only one USB port. So if the only thing you ever do is surf on the Web, this Chrome test drive thing is for you then. I got this info from the people who have got their notebooks already. Here is the notebook spec as well:
* 12.1-inch screen.
* Atom N455 1.6GHz single core processor
* 16GB SanDisk SSD and Hynix RAM chips (possibly 1GB)
* Full size keyboard.
* Oversized clickpad.
* 802.11n dual-band WiFi.
* 8+ hours of active use.
* 8+ days of standby.
* Webcam.
* Flash storage.
* Intel Pine Trail processor.
* 100MB of free Verizon data.
I would say that those specs are correct. I haven’t used the webcam yet. Also we use a small mouse with it instead of using the clickpad. Also I signed in with my gmail account so that is saves my searches. At first I didn’t do that and it was a bit of a pain to search, I do it the easy way, just type in a couple of letters. This weekend my kids left the computer on without using it for a while and the computer “got stuck”. My husband took out the battery and it started where the kids had left off on the website. I thought that was nice.

How can you afford your baby if you can’t afford a laptop?
Thanks! I’ve been thinking about getting an i-Pad but not ready to jump on that bandwagon – this would be great if chosen!

I hope we all get selected this would be amazing to try out!!
When you submit the form does it just disappear or do you get a confirmation? I just applied, but I’m not sure if it went through correctly. I don’t want to have duplicate apps! Thanks!
See the comment from Tlchidester below. This was true for me!
This happened to me too, and I made sure I was within the 140 limit…just took me back to the page to start at?

I just submitted my application and it says it went through they will contact me if selected. I will let you know if I am..Thank you for the link and information.
When I did it on my blackberry it went back to the original home page. BUT, when I did it on my laptop, I received confirmation immediately after submitting.
After selecting submitt did anyone receive confirmation that it went through?
All that happened on my end is the page went back to the select what type of user you are i.e. individual, business, etc.
If that happened it means that you had too many characters in your response to why you should test drive it. You are limited to 140, it will let you type more, but it won’t submit.
Oh, Gosh, I HOPE I”m selected, seriously. Notebooks are exciting and all that but I’m an honest to goodness chrome lover/fanatic, lol.
this would be so cool! We are looking for a new laptop would love to test drive something other than an HP. Need something with a lifespan, that can withstand 2 tweens and a toddler, along with thier mother!
It would be great for my two kids that are in school and my one that needs to start preschool things.
What a great find! Our homeschooling group could make so much use of something like this. We still have two old desktops that were donated quite a bit of time ago. TY so much for this find!
