I also browsed the Weekly Deals at Family Dollar to see the price drops and help me make my shopping list. I was impressed with the selection of Halloween decor and candy. Most of the Halloween decor I found was priced at $1 WOW (which is my favorite price, LOL). Please note that prices vary by location. I used the Halloween Garland to decorate my fireplace mantel. I’ve got the “Boo” Felt Pumpkin hanging in my dining room. I can’t wait to set my kids loose with the Spider Webs on the staircase banister! I enjoyed making the Black Cat OREOS because they are adorable, easy to make and your kids can help make them! This is an “assembly only” recipe, so no baking is involved! Here are the instructions to make them:
BLACK CAT OREOS
adapted from PartyPinching.com
Ingredients Needed:
- OREO cookies
- Green M&M’s
- Small Red Candies
- Chocolate Chips
- Black Frosting
- Black Edible Food Marker
Step 1 – Draw black diamonds onto green M&M’s using a black edible food marker (available at craft stores).
Step 2 – Secure green M&M eyes onto OREO with black frosting.
Step 3 – Secure red candy nose beneath green eyes with black frosting.
Step 4 – Secure chocolate chip ears to top of OREO using black frosting.
Step 5 – Let your Black Cat OREOS set for at least an hour to secure all the pieces to the OREO.
Now it’s time to make a sweet Halloween treat out of cereal! I used Reese’s Puffs cereal to make Reese’s Pumpkin Puffs treats. My kids loved them because they have peanut butter in them and they remind them of Rice Krispie treats. Here’s the recipe so you can make these for your ‘lil ghosts and goblins:
- 3½ cups Reese's Puffs cereal
- ½ cup agave syrup
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- red + yellow food coloring
- ½ cup white chocolate chips
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- pretzel sticks
- green gumdrops
- Melt agave syrup and granulated sugar in a large pan on medium-low heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the peanut butter and white chocolate chips until melted.
- Add in red and yellow food coloring until you get the desired orange color.
- Stir in the Reese's Puffs cereal until coated well.
- Cool the mixture until you can handle it and roll it into balls.
- Roll into balls and place on a piece of waxed paper.
- You'll want to squash down each ball slightly to make it pumpkin shaped.
- Cut the green gumdrops into quarters with a knife to use two slices as pumpkin leaves.
- Cut the pretzel sticks into small pieces to use as pumpkin stems.
I am really proud of my Fall Centerpiece that I made for under $20 with fall home decor items I bought at Family Dollar. I bought everything at Family Dollar except the gold charger which I already had. I combined six decorative elements to make a festive fall centerpiece. Here’s how I put it together:
Step 1 – Start with a table runner. I loved this table runner with gold leaves because I knew my gold charger would make a great starter for a Fall Centerpiece.
Step 2 – Place a charger on top of the table runner. Ideally you can get a gold charger like I did, but use any charger that brings out one of the colors in your table runner.
Step 3 – Place three battery-operated tea lights on top of the charger. I love these orange tea lights that I found in the Halloween section of Family Dollar. But of course you can use white tea lights too!
Step 4 – Place three glass cylinders upside down on top of the tea lights. I found these in the Crafts section of my Family Dollar. They are so versatile, I can use them for lots of things, including as vases!
Step 5 – Place decorative pumpkins on top of the glass cylinders. I loved these pumpkins with flowers on top of them. I used them to give my Fall Centerpiece extra height and more color!
Step 6 – Arrange three fall foliage sprigs between each of the glass cylinders. I fell in love with the shimmery orange pumpkins I found in the Thanksgiving section of my Family Dollar.
Remember to clip you Smart Coupons for Family Dollar so you’re ready to save money too! All you have to do to apply your coupons to your purchase is to enter your phone number into the keypad at the register. It’s a smart money-saving move to help you stock-up for Halloween!
