Unfortunately they closed this program early because of the large response they received on the first day.
If someone in your family is on active military duty then you can apply for the Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry to receive free Sears gift cards to help you during the holidays. They are accepting applications through 6:00 pm CT Friday, October 15. I heard from several readers during my Sears Salute to Heroes Giveaway (now closed) that benefited from this program in past years. In 2009 Sears helped over 20,000 military families by giving out more than $6.7 million in gift cards. I want to make sure that you know about it and that you can pass it along to families who may benefit. The application window is a short one, it just opened up Wednesday, October 13. Thanks goes to Olivia for letting me know about it in time to share it with you!
I just got an e-mail confiming out request – has anyone else?
Man…this bites! The day this went live, I was volunteering. Oh well….hopefully next year.
I’ve been checking off and on all day and I just checked a moment ago and it said it is closed for the year, that they got the 25,0000
Thanks for the post though and for all you do.

It was unavailable all day and is now closed a day early. Bummer. Try again next year.
This is a wonderful promotion! We got it last year while my husband was deployed and it was wonderful! But every year the system is very finicky and tempermental… sears website is never equiped to handle the load of people trying to get it! But just keep trying throughout the day and with some luck you’ll be able to get it… last year I got in literally an hour before they closed it! And if you don’t get in, just keep an eye out for next year!
as of 11:29am 10/14, it says that it is temporarily closed.
This is a really good idea. I will be filling this form out for our family. Me and my fiance(husband-getting married on thanksgiving) will be having a our first child together and she is due on dec. 7th this will be a really good jump start for us! I want to thank all the people for everything that have done for us.
Just wanted to let you all know. I called and the Sears Rep said its closed for the day but will reopen tomorrow:)
says it’s closed already.
It is saying that it is now closed for 2010
Kathy, the ethics violation is from the program 2 years ago. They’ve amended it since then so that Sears could continue to do this. If you read all the posts in the thread you’ll understand that. It’s why they did it as gift cards instead of specific items. Server overload is a good chunk of why people couldn’t register and I know that the scroll button wasn’t working so I had to highlight the text down the page to get the full form but I put my husband’s information in and it went through. So we’ll see what happens next.
Just tried this is the site states that this is closed for the year of 2010!! boo hoo! This is the first that I have heard of this. And it would have been great to try to get this year since my hubby is deployed.
FINALLY! I have been trying all day and it just went through! there is hope and this would be a really wonderful and needed surprise! Thanks for posting it!
This is a very valid program. Sears does it every year. The gift cards come in your email. The program is still open, they just shut it down for a few hours because their site was crashing because so many people were on it. Try it again. If you are an active duty family this is a great program for you and your family!
This is amazing what sears is doing for military families. My husband will be gone on deployment again for the second year in a row during the holidays. Thank you for sharing this. It will definitely help those who need it. Thank you sears!!
It is valid. I was able to get on this morning, but when I hit the submit application button the next page would not load. Idk what happened. My husband is currently Iraq and I this is a wonderful thing for Sears to do for Military families!
I finally got the site to load after trying for an hour! It now says “We’re sorry, the application for the Wish Registry is now closed.”
It started at 9 am cst.
This IS a valid giveaway they’re doing. It’s for active-duty military only. I know someone who received a $350 gift card for Sears last year after doing this. The link works, but there’s soooo many people that are trying to get on that page that it’s overloaded and doesn’t work properly right now. However, if they’re giving out $6.7 MILLION and possibly in $350 increments, the chances that they’ll run out anytime very soon is slim. I’m going to let some time pass for the website to cool down and will try again. Hope that helps! :-)
It doesn’t appear that this is a legitimate promotion. The link provided is not valid and I cannot seem to find any way to get information on it at the Sears website. According to a page at http://www.corpsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38097, it is in violation of some ethics regulations for military personnel. Can someone clarify how Marines and soldiers can get in on this opportunity?
Please contact Sears for clarification about this program. I know they’ve done it in the past.
I keep trying to use the site but it keeps timng out. I mean, there are a lot of military families so I guess it is understandable.
I don’t know what is going on with Sears website – but I would try again late tonight, hopefully they’ve fixed it or there are less people online trying to submit the form.
the link is also not working for me.
Does this apply for former active duty vets?
o man my hubby just got off his active duty orders last week :( that sucks
The link isn’t working. It just keeps saying connection timeout
Thanks so much! I work for the military and I just sent them all an email letting them know about this program. I know they will appreciate it!
What an awesome opportunity for military families. :)
Thanks for posting this! Every little bit helps during the holidays.
