Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries. This year’s Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is Saturday, May 11. The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive in the United States. Simply leave your donation of non-perishable food in a bag near your mailbox and your letter carrier will deliver it to a local food bank or pantry. This is such an easy way to make a food donation. Who here has a very well-stocked pantry and could spare some of your extras? I’m calling this a “freebie event” because you don’t have to drive anywhere to make your donation. And it is important to remember that food banks need donations all year round.
