I’ve seen some beautiful Diaper Cakes for sale at boutiques, but the price tags were less than beautiful. Why not consider making your own? I assure you that it will be the hit of the next baby shower you attend! Amy at MomAdvice.com shows you how to make a Diaper Cake for under $10 like the one she made in this photo. Trust me, it’s easier than you think. And diapers are the most practical gift to give, they just need some jazzing up as far as the presentation goes. So, get crafty with those diapers!
Stephanie just emailed me this comment: “I have made 2 diaper cakes and they are easy and turn out so adorable! The first one I made cost me about $15 but a friend and I made it together so it was $7.50 each, which I thought was pretty reasonable. The second one I made was for a friend of mine who was having twins, and it turned out much bigger–mostly because my daughter grew out of her newborn sized diapers faster than I thought she would…so she ended up with what I had purchased for her plus my extras. She was having girl/boy twins, so I used “princess” and “all star” ribbons and since I was giving the shower it was a great decoration as well as a gift!”
Sara just emailed me this comment: “I wanted to thank you so much for the Diaper Cake post! I am going to make one for the centerpiece at a shower I am giving my best friend next month! That tutorial was AWESOME!”I can’t wait to see what you create, Sara! Please send me a photo!
You’re welcome, Amy! I’m hoping to make one someday – I’ll take a photo and share it if I do!
Wow, that is stunning! That girl is wildly talented! Ha! Actually, I get one crafty moment a year and that was it :) You know it is easy if I do it, I promise, because I have no crafting skills at all. I have heart though :) That has to count for something (despite my usual first-grade looking projects I give!)Thanks again for the link!!
Thanks for the comment, Niki! I have actually never even seen one given at a baby shower. But now I am up to the challenge of making one myself!
I am a diaper cake maker myself! They are easy to do and with some imagination they can turn out really beautiful. They are always a great shower gift that will get many oooh and ahhhhs!
Thanks for the amusing comment, Michele! Well, you just don’t tell your friend that you bought the Pampers at a rock-bottom price when they were on sale and you used a coupon and that the other decorations were freebies or in the clearance section. Sometimes you have to be a little secretive with your non-frugal friends!
I’ve made one of these before and they CAN be very frugal…unless…you have a really tightly-wound friend who insists that her new baby can ONLY wear Pampers, which are the MOST expensive ones on the store shelves and using anything else would end up being declared unfit and ultimately be in the trash so then you buy what she wants and without knowing what happened find you’re spending $50 rather than the few you had intended and, being as it is for Mrs. Particular, you also spend several hours making sure it’s all just perfect and that the decorations on it match the party theme and the toys are all educationally sound and in the end you vow never to do a diaper cake for a persnickety new mom again! Phfew! Of course…I never say never. :-)Michele
Yes, Auntie Steph, that was definitely the perfect shower gift for triplets! Thanks for sharing the ingredients you used!
I made a diaper cake for my sister’s baby shower. She just had triplets. I can’t think of a better shower gift for TRIPLETS! Diapers Diapers Diapers! It was very easy to make and was so cute. I used blue and pink ribbons, baby shoes, baby bottles and diapers.
Thanks for the comment, Jessica! It’s great to hear from an experienced Diaper Cake crafter!
i’ve made two different ones for friends and they’ve been easy and inexpensive! and cute to boot!
