If you have a crib in your house you need to read this Stork Craft Crib recall notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. I don’t usually post recall notices, but when my own Jardine crib was recalled it earned a post – and this crib recall is even bigger than that one with over 1 million recalled units sold in the U.S.. So it caught my attention when Lori emailed me about it.
If you want to stay informed about recalls, I recommend signing-up for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s email alerts. You have the option to request receiving only the recalls involving infant/child products. There are an amazing number of recalls issued each month in this category. To keep up with them a great blog to visit is Z Recommends, a product review blog with a keen eye for safety. Read more about the Stork Craft Recall at Z Recommends.

Thanks for recommending us, Heather! We also publish a Twitter stream of CPSC recalls, mixed in with relevant FDA recalls, car seat recalls from NHTSA, and even Canadian recalls of products sold in the U.S. (did you know several Melissa & Doug toys were recalled in Canada for their heavy metals content – U.S. standards are currently on an enforcement delay). You can find us on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/zrecs_safetyThat feed includes all CPSC recalls, ported directly from their feed, with the rest of our findings and research tweeted by hand as it happens.
For anyone who uses a feed reader, you can subscribe to CPSC recalls via RSS. I read it along with all my other blogs in Bloglines. There have been many recalls I probably would have never heard about without seeing them on the feed. Here's the link: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/rss.htmlJust click the button that says "RSS Feed" next to "Child Products"
I know this isn't related to cribs, but there is also a recall for MacLaren strollers because of the possibility of fingertip amputation. You can request a free hinge cover from MacLaren.
